Vail, Colorado is magical on its own — but add a blanket of fresh snow, a secret plan, and two people completely in love? Pure magic. Peri & Ty’s Vail Colorado proposal near the iconic Betty Ford Alpine Gardens turned into one of the most heartwarming, hilarious, and emotional mornings I’ve ever had the honor to photograph.
Let me walk you through the full story — snow boots and all.
Ty had a vision: pop the question to Peri during a cozy winter getaway in Vail, surrounded by fresh snow and mountain views. But he didn’t stop there. He secretly invited both of their families to drive in from out of town and surprise her for the big moment.
Everyone arrived the night before, buzzing with excitement and trying not to blow the surprise. The plan? Hide the family near the bridge at Betty Ford Gardens, let Ty lead Peri to the snowy Betty Ford Gardens proposal spot, and then cue the surprise celebration.
Simple, right?
Well… almost.

That morning, Vail had just gotten 8 inches of fresh snow — the whole town looked like a Hallmark movie. I got into position near the bridge, camera ready and heart racing (yes, even after doing this so many times!).
Ty and Peri started walking toward the proposal spot — and that’s when it happened.
They accidentally ran into Peri’s mom along the path.
Yep — the one person who was supposed to be hidden until after the ring.
Immediately, Peri’s face shifted. You could see the gears turning. The “wait… what are you doing here?” moment was priceless. It was like the surprise popped itself early — and honestly, that made it even better.

Even though the surprise didn’t go exactly as planned, Ty got down on one knee by the bridge surrounded by a winter wonderland, and Peri said yes with the biggest, happiest tears in her eyes.
The rest of the family came out from hiding — laughing, crying, and hugging in a big snowy bundle of joy. It was raw, emotional, funny, and ridiculously beautiful.
This wasn’t just a proposal — it was a whole story, with plot twists, comedy, and love bursting at the seams.
If you’re thinking about planning a proposal in Colorado, Vail truly has it all:
The bridge near the gardens offers the kind of secluded beauty that makes every moment feel intimate, even when there’s a crowd hiding nearby.

There’s something extra special about being let in on a secret like this — helping coordinate timing, watching it unfold in real-time, and capturing each reaction as it happens.
Peri’s initial confusion, Ty’s nerves, the snowflakes falling around them, the surprise reunion with their families — these are the moments you can’t script, and I feel so lucky I got to freeze them in time for these two.
It was one of those mornings that made me remember exactly why I do this.
